Writers as Readers

 Tanner Zeolia

1.       My ideal environment is somewhere quiet, calm, and cold. I would also have my headphones in with my music blaring full blast, my room would be cold because I love the cold in my room and I would have a blanket on my lap with my theoretical laptop as well. I wouldn’t have food because I simply don’t want any distractions and I feel that one.
2.       The genre’s that interest me are Stephen king horror and Edgar Allen Poe suspense, I used specific names because I feel like those two authors are the best way to express the genre’s. I love not knowing what’s going to happen next and in horror I love being scared or forced to think in a different way.
3.       I try and emulate the style closest to Stephen king because he’s my inspiration for why and how I write because I’ve grown up reading his work and I love how he writes and what he writes. I honestly don’t have authors who I don’t like or stay away from because I try and stay within my theoretical “bubble.”
4.       One of my best memories associated with reading is probably when I got the Nightmare and Dreamscapes book from my mom and staying up all night for a few days to read little scary stories trying to finish the book and getting in trouble for doing so. It was so worth it staying up so late and losing precious sleep over a book full of different stories, now it’s absurd but I admire that time in my life.
5.       Yes indeed I’ve had that type of book and the book was called “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” by none other than the infamous Stephen King. I couldn’t stop reading because every chapter or two was a new story and it grabbed me in and pulled me close to the book. When twilight came out, it took so long to pull through that I quit reading it off and on over the span of two weeks. Even though my mom read them and said they were great I just couldn’t do it with ease like her.
7.    The first book I remember reading ever was probably the classic green eggs and ham. Like honestly that was my childhood right there, and I used to be so good that I could have recited it completely from memorization and I liked that about it.

  1. I don't think it's "absurd" losing sleep for the sake of finishing a story you're really into. I do it all the time! I also love to be snuggled up in a cold room to read (or sleep!). Thanks, Tanner!

  2. Hi, Tanner! I can completely relate to you on loving “Edgar Allan Poe suspense.” The feeling of not knowing what is going to happen next just makes you want to keep reading, so much so that sometimes you just have to read into the wee hours of the morning to finish it. By the way, I do not think that it is “absurd” that you would stay up reading a good book, but rather admirable. It shows your love towards the book, and your dedication to read it (it also shows your false promises of, “one more chapter,” but that is beside the point). I have not read any Stephen King novels, but am now looking forward to reading a few based on your love for his books. I do think it is amazing that you have found what kind of books you enjoy to read, and what authors inspire you to write.
