Questions
Angelou says, “There’s
a world of difference between truth and fact.” What do you think she means by
that? Do you think the same?
Honestly I will try
my hardest to answer that but no promises. I think she means that fact is
something that could be wrong and truth is something that could be right and what
she might mean is that the truth might be shrouded by facts. Because if you
think about it facts kind of dictates the truth, for example if someone says
lizards are green then there not wrong and it’s still a fact but the truth is
that lizards are a large assortment of colors and that kind of demonstrates my
point. Do I think the same? Absolutely I think if something has facts than theirs
always a truth as well.
Angelou mentions being
told that “one can’t really learn after one is twenty-five.” Do you think the
older you get the harder it is to try or learn new things? Or do you think
being older means you’re more focused on what’s important and not distracted by
things that keep you from learning?
I think in her case
that being older can affect the way you learn but I don’t think it’s impossible
to learn. For example if someone that is 70 is trying to learn a language, yeah
it’s going to be hard but not impossible. Someone that is younger is more prone
to learn quicker than someone who is clearly older.
After going through a
major trauma at age seven, Angelou didn’t talk for almost five years. Could you
live this way? Do you talk too much or too little? What could you learn if you
listened more and spoke less? How could grow as a person by speaking more?
Well honestly what
she did wasn’t surprising at the slightest. Could I live like this? Yes I actually
did it once before and of course it didn’t last long it felt liberating. If I listened
more I would learn more about what’s going on around me and if I spoke more I could
grow as person because I could learn more about people.
What did Angelou say
is the reason a caged bird sings? What does that mean? Do you agree or
understand this idea?
The caged bird sings
not because it wants to, it sings because it’s screaming to get out of the cage.
That means sometimes were are caged by things in our lives and maybe our mind
is longing for the chance to get out. Do I agree or understand? I definitely
agree with this because its something for me that enlightens me and gives me a
sense of understanding in that fact but the truth is that I don’t completely understand
it like its meant to be understood but I do in fact respect the meaning and I feel
like it makes sense how she worded it. In conclusion the cage bird is us and
the cage is the hectic lives we live.
Thanks for taking the time to think about these questions, Tanner. I see that you could relate to some of what Maya hadt to say. That's one of my favorite quotes in the image you included.
